I write this post on the blessed night of Christmas Eve. We spent the last few days dealing with family member challenges, a sick cat and the ongoing saga of my class. So I’m taking this space to show how MKMMA has worked for me.
On the family member; I know Og says “…hear not those who weep and complain , for their disease is contagious.” That’s not so easy when it’s a member of your family in crisis. Our cousin and her three children were evicted last Wednesday; so it was not just a matter of her complaining it was serious. It’s winter, it’s Christmas and they are homeless. The very first thing we offered was for them to come stay with us but she is in Virginia and did not think her car could make it to Jersey.
As you can imagine, there are people in the family who want to talk and gossip but never offer any concrete assistance. Normally we would have had to filter through those people in order to get to the proactive people; not this time. This time we immediately deflected the gossips and successfully connected with the doers. At the same time, a refund check, that I was not expecting, arrived In the mail. On an aside, this check became beneficial for the family member and my own household. Getting back to the story, within one day of the eviction we had secured temporary housing for them and sent grocery money. The problem is not completely solved and, of course, it is now up to our cousin to start getting her life together but immediate crisis averted.
Then there is my highly negative class. They still must be reminded to treat themselves with love and I am in no way expecting overnight results, after all we were the same way before MKMMA, negative thoughts and self talk was normal behavior. The week was challenging because they are still questioning my authority because I was originally assigned to them as a substitute. Nevertheless, the week ended on a positive note when my most challenging student asked to speak to me after class. She then told me that she was letting outside problems affect her school work; and that she realized what she was doing was actually working against herself after our class sessions and is now ready to take responsibility for her work, and to consider her class time more important than the drama going on with her ex-boyfriend. I was shocked! We are on break now, I can’t wait to get back.
As for me, I was in a serious funk until our webinar last Sunday. It was as if Mark, Davene and Trish were hanging out at my house monitoring my progress. From the beginning of the webinar to the end I was struggling not to have a full fledged bawl episode. When Mark talked about moving past our business block by doing our reading then throwing it all away, the tears could not be contained. It felt as though I was kicked in the chest and he had only mentioned it. You see, I’ve been working diligently on everything the class had to offer and I’ve had that feeling of the cement breaking away; actually feeling the new Joanne coming through. The thought of throwing away all of that work was crushing. However, it made perfect sense. What was the use doing the work if we are not going to apply it. The magic is in action. Not thinking alone, not planning alone, not changing your mindset alone; it is in everything together and then putting it in action.
I can not begin to adequately describe the joy I feel in relating to you what’s been going on in my life. It is even more keenly felt during this time of celebration in the birth of Jesus. This is the time of year when people begin to evaluate how they have spent the old year and look forward to what the new year will bring. We in MKMMA have the added benefit of knowing how our year is going to be because we intend to create it. There could not be a better way to greet the new year than with love, wisdom and persistent self determination. Thank you all for sharing in my journey and thanks the Mark, Davene and my guide Bob for providing and guiding the vehicle which will change my life. Have a very Merry Christmas!
